I took it in, they ran some tests and it came back that the logic board had failed. I updated to 10.8.2 and the errors appeared. I only have a mouse, keyboard and a 1TB WD elements external drive. The thing about the Reset the SMC procedure, is that it requires a device reboot, which also 100% of the time fixes the issue - no SMC refresh required. How can i manage this problem? To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. I've had the problem of USB ports stopping working (no USB devices recognized with system_profiler SPUSBDataType ) on a couple MacBook Airs over the last three years.
