I had not applied the R14 update so the only thing I could figure was that this was a time sensitive issue with the program. Or, should I just continue on my merry way using R12? Intuit has dropped support for older versions, although that might not affect your QuickBooks desktop installation. If a sample company file does not open and instead returns an error, it is an indication that the QuickBooks installation is damaged and should be repaired.
